The New Yellowpages Indonesia

PT Infomedia Nusantara entrusted us — PT Konsep Dot Net and NetDesain — to build the new Yellowpages Indonesia website, which we relaunched a month or two ago.

We added plenty of new features, including a community section so users can rate each venue, an online store, map integration (Yellowpages had already mapped a great many points across Jakarta), city information, and banners and ads. We also built a mobile version of some parts of the site, such as the city information.

Beyond the sheer number of features, what made this project so valuable was that it's truly “enterprise.” It was about structuring and building a system that stays stable, fast, and accurate — because the Yellowpages site is accessed by tens of thousands of people at the same time during peak hours. Without careful optimization, the system would simply go down.

One of the hardest parts was making the search engine return results fast, since search is the portal's core feature. We brought each search down from 8 seconds to under 1 second (for the search itself, not counting rendering and data transfer).

The system is built on:

A big part of making search that fast was Sphinx Search, a free, open-source SQL full-text search engine.

This portal is one of our masterpieces, and our team was glad to do it justice, with great cooperation from the PT Infomedia Nusantara team.
