A Mobile Solution for Pharmaceutical Companies

After several years developing the web-based Mosaiq Monitor for the sales forces — medical reps — of pharmaceutical companies in Indonesia, we finally rolled out a complementary product: Mosaiq Monitor Mobile.

The web-based system had a couple of problems:

  1. Internet access in the regions was sometimes unstable, and connectivity across the pharma industry wasn't evenly distributed. Because reps also tended to log in all at once after returning to the office, the central server got heavily loaded — so accessing the web solution from a computer felt slow.
  2. Data entry was often semi-manual: reps didn't enter their visit data on the spot, but jotted it down by hand and keyed it in later at the office. That wasn't just out of date — it was error-prone.

Thankfully, mobile and internet technology kept improving. Phones became more capable and affordable, mobile internet got far cheaper with wide coverage (reaching even remote areas), and people had grown used to using the internet on their phones — helped along by the popularity of Facebook, Twitter, and the like.

So we delivered a solution installed on the phone, able to run without a stable internet connection. For data, it can use whatever's available — GPRS, 3G, or Wi-Fi.

We've used it on Nokia and BlackBerry, and even tried it on Chinese-made phones; it ran fine there, though a little slower.

On top of the benefits above, there are plenty more — for instance, sales reps can chase their targets more effectively, because target and progress information comes through far more instantly.
